THIS SITE WAS FORMERLY OCCUPIED BY THREE JESUIT EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTIONS. THE REAL Y PONTIFICA UNIVERSIDAD DE SAN IGNACIO 1589-1768: THE COLEGIO DE SAN JOSE FOUNDED IN 1610 BY ESTEBAN RODRIGUEZ DE FIGUEROA; AND THE REAL COLEGIO DE SAN FELIPE DE AUSTRIA FOUNDED BY GOVERNOR CORCUERA IN 1640 AND ABOLISHED BY GOVERNOR FAJARDO IN 1644.
