FRANCISCAN CHURCH

FIRST CHAPEL CONSTRUCTED OF NIPA AND BAMBOO IN 1577: DESTROYED BY FIRE IN 1583. BUILT OF VOLCANIC TUFF IN 1602. LAYING OF THE CORNERSTONE OF THE PRESENT CHURCH, NOVEMBER 5, 1739, BY GOVERNOR GASPAR DE LA TORRE. BELFRY DAMAGED BY EARTHQUAKES OF 1824.
