THE PHILIPPINE ASSEMBLY

INAUGURATED AT THE MANILA GRAND OPERA HOUSE BY WILLIAM H. TAFT, SECRETARY OF WAR OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. THE PHILIPPINE ASSEMBLY HELD ITS FIRST SESSION AT THE AYUNTAMIENTO DE MANILA ON 16 OCTOBER 1907. THE 80-MEMBER ASSEMBLY ELECTED SERGIO OSMEÑA AS ITS SPEAKER, MANUEL L. QUEZON AS ITS MAJORITY LEADER, AND VICENTE SINGSON ENCARNACION AS ITS MINORITY LEADER. THE ESTABLISHMENT OF THE PHILIPPINE ASSEMBLY IS THE REALIZATION OF THE FILIPINO PEOPLE’S ASPIRATION FOR SELF-DETERMINATION.

THE CENTENNIAL CELEBRATION OF THE FOUNDING OF THE PHILIPPINE ASSEMBLY WAS LAUNCHED ON 7 JUNE 2007 DURING THE TERM OF THE 236-MEMBER HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES UNDER THE LEADERSHIP OF SPEAKER JOSE C. DE VENECIA, JR., MAJORITY LEADER PROSPERO C. NOGRALES AND MINORITY LEADER FRANCIS JOSEPH G. ESCUDERO.
