ESPIRITU SANTO HOSPITAL

SITE OF FORMER ESPIRITU SANTO HOSPITAL, FOUNDED IN 1591 BY THE FRANCISCANS ON A LOT DONATED BY FELIPE CORREO. FOR THREE DECADES THE HOSPITAL WAS MAINLY SUPPORTED BY THE PRODUCTS OF THE LAND ENDOWED BY CRISTOBAL DE VALENZUELA AND DIEGO BRAVO IN 1610. IT WAS DEMOLISHED IN 1662 BY ORDER OF GOVERNOR SABINIANO MANRIQUE DE LARA AS A MILITARY PRECAUTION AGAINST THE EXECUTED ATTACK ON MANILA BY KUE-SING.
