CASTILLEJOS
ORIGINALLY THE PUEBLO DE UGUIC CREATED IN 1743. PRESENT NAME ADOPTED IN 1863 IN HONOR OF THE MARQUÉS DE CASTILLEJOS WHO DISTINGUISHED HIMSELF IN THE BATTLE OF THE VALLEY OF CASTILLEJOS IN SPANISH MOROCCO, AFRICA. A CONTINGENT OF CASTILLEJOS RESIDENTS JOINED THE REVOLUTIONARY FORCES IN CAPTURING THE SPANISH TROOPS IN ZAMBALES IN 1896. THE GUERRILLAS UNDER THE COMMAND OF RAMON MAGSAYSAY DISLODGED THE JAPANESE SOLDIERS GARRISONED AT THE CASTILLEJOS AIRSTRIP ON 26 JANUARY 1945, IN PREPARATION FOR THE LIBERATION OF THE TOWN FOUR DAYS LATER.
