OLDEST CHARTERED BANK IN THE PHILIPPINES. FOUNDED IN 1851 BY THE JUNTA DE AUTORIDADES UNDER THE NAME OF "BANCO ESPANOL FILIPINO" BY VIRTUE OF HER MAJESTY ISABEL II'S DECREE. SOLE BANK IN THE PHILIPPINES PRIVILEGED UNTIL 1916 TO ISSUE BANK NOTES. RECHARTETED IN 1908 AND RENAMED IN 1912 BANK OF THE PHILIPPINE ISLANDS
